On stage, a huge wall rises up, drastically reducing the performance space. With acrobatic lifts, the eight actors in Foreshadow defy the laws of gravity, transforming this limitation into creative energy.
From the United States/Mexico border to the frontier separating Israel and Palestine, walls are everywhere you look, in a world where more and more people are turning inward. To a backdrop of experimental rock music, Foreshadow performs a radical reversal of this idea: the huge 5 by 10-metre panel that blocks the stage opens up new possibilities for these eight dancers, who are determined to make the remaining space their own. Leaving the ground to inhabit the vertical space, Alexander Vantournhout takes inspiration from geckos – those huge acrobatic lizards – drawing on dance and martial arts to invent new kinds of lifts and touches. The performers defy the laws of gravity to show us what a community can achieve once people decide to help rather than compete with one another.
