A roller-coaster descent into a “post-apocalyptic” world, Zypher Z. brings us face to face with our own demons. A futuristic allegory on the issue of replication.
With their passion for creating picturesque, dream-like worlds, Munstrum Theatre catapults us into a post-hybridisation society. This is the home of Zypher, one of the last members of the human race. He is married to a fig tree, works for a company run by an elephant, and has slave-robots do his household chores. This trouble-free existence takes an unexpected turn one day when Zypher finds his body wracked by mutations. He gives birth to a peculiar being – a clone of himself that propels him into an unexpected reality.
A futuristic tale with shades of Kafka, Zypher Z. centres around the power of the subconscious. Between laughter and horror, kitsch and sublime, mundane and spiritual. We are immediately drawn into the half-light of this epic which, although it may be harsh, is also full of hope. Munstrum Theatre faces up to the dread modern man experiences when confronted by the unfolding ecological disaster. The age they are offering to share with us here is one of endless possibilities, limitless dreams.
