Who could forget those theatrical yet thoroughly contemporary thrillers, Tristesses and Arctique? Anne-Cécile Vandalem is back at the Célestins theatre with an epic and enthralling tale about Mankind’s inability to live in peace.
They dreamed of getting away from the modern world to find peace in nature. Two families decide to move halfway around the world, to the middle of the taiga in Eastern Siberia. But in the space of a few years, what should be an earthly paradise is transformed into a battleground. In an enchanting yet hostile environment, suspicions and resentment rise to the surface. War breaks out, with the children trying their best not to get involved. Our story begins with the arrival of a film crew who have come to make a documentary about this unique community. Their presence, and the live footage they film, allows us to find out exactly what has happened to this failed utopia. Kingdom plunges us into a devastatingly powerful fable. A fable which deals with returning to life in the wild, original sin, sharing territory, Eurasian widgeons, poachers, wildfires…
