François Morel’s tender, playful tribute to the great Raymond Devos, J’ai des doutes leads us to rediscover texts which speak of life, death, and the irresistible absurdity that lies between the two.
“Once you’ve seen him you never forget him: Raymond Devos was a rare phenomenon”, enthuses François Morel. “He appeared, miraculous and mysterious, from behind a red curtain that opened onto a fantasy world. We had never seen anything like it! And this man who floated, weightless, took our breath away.” A lover of words and an actor with an original style steeped in melancholy who played in the Deschiens, Morel could not help but fall for the lexical gems and poetic paradoxes with which Devos, who passed away in 2006, made his name.
Accompanied by a pianist and dressed for the occasion in suit and bow-tie, François Morel recites some sketches and sings others. He recounts Raymond Devos’ obsessions, and casts a new light on the playful, barbed puns of this linguistic magician that bent the world to their will. The curtain is lifted once more on this visionary world that pulls us out of reality and away from sadness, making us more sensitive, lighter – and, undoubtedly, happier.
