Actor and director Pascal Rambert brings together an exceptional cast to interweave precipices of History and intimate upheaval.
He writes for actors and actresses, based on their presence, their bodies and their voices, on what they physically exude onstage. After the success of Love’s end in 2013 and Actress in 2018, Pascal Rambert returns to the Célestins with Architecture, a family portrait that depicts world clamour and the catastrophe of civilisation at the beginning of the 20th century on the eve of the Second World War. A troupe of leading actors embodies the family members – flamboyant characters dedicated to philosophy and beauty. Kept in the iron grip of their father, whose mood swings between violence and madness, one-by-one they allow themselves to be swept away by the tides of fate. All of them, however brilliant they may be, will live, talk, love and confront each other and die… But if these people – the most talented of all – were unable to escape the worst-case scenario, how would we cope if the worst-case scenario were to rear its ugly head again? Architecture is an existential tale that obliges us to analyse our modern world and plunges us into a whirlwind of shock and upheaval.
