How can we talk about the environment, about nature, without falling prey to a form of paralysing defeatism? Julie Berès has created a theatrical tale which examines our relationship with nature.
Can we change our view of nature, to see it as more than just a mass of inert, empty objects, a stockpile of resources to plunder until we have had our fill? Soleil blanc offers us a glimpse of something unexpected and optimistic. Julie Berès and her team went to ask children questions and film their responses. The nature they discover makes us see it in a different way; their words provide the poetic fuel for a pluralist drama for all audiences, where there is a merging of tales and landscapes, acting and image manipulation; where scientists’ statements are juxtaposed with those of philosophers and journalists in a tale loosely inspired by Joël Jouanneau’s unpublished fable. Suspended between fiction and documentary, legend and modernity, White Sun takes the shape of a dreamlike tale, a voyage through sensation and investigation.
