Acrobat, juggler, dancer, actor, director… Yoann Bourgeois defines himself first and foremost as an expert in art of acting. Here he gives us his most recent creation based on the real and the imaginary.
Yoann Bourgeois loves to take all kinds of spaces and make them his own. This is how we came witness his quest for movement and balance in historical buildings, parks, urban wastelands… In his words: “I design my programmes based on the spaces I occupy. These are what inspire drama for me, not the other way around”. After the Pantheon in Paris, and the Domaine d’O in Montpellier, the circus performer has created a show for the revival of the La Scala Theatre in Paris.
An emblem of music hall at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, La Scala Paris is reopening its doors and will become Yoann Bourgeois’ playground for the duration of this creation. Poles, trapdoors, motorised bridges – the apparatus with which the acrobat-dancer explores every nuance of his aerial craft. At Les Célestins, Scala continues to intertwine the real and the imaginary. Here, the theatre space is no longer an abstract medium used to create a world, but the very substance of the poetic.
