They both come from Quebec. Étienne Lepage and Frédérick Gravel play with our taste for everyday acts of cruelty. Cutting and corrosive.
One of their previous plays was called Ainsi parlait – Thus spoke – a nod to Friedrich Nietzsche’s famous Thus spoke Zarathustra. The title of this new creation also takes its inspiration from a philosophical work, this time one by Clément Rosset. Could it be that Étienne Lepage and Frédérick Gravel have a philosophical bent? No doubt they do. But this is a hard-hitting philosophy, one which illuminates our connection with daily life with a ferocious, playful, disillusioned glare. Powering this light are five actors, two men and three women. They look us right in the eyes, mike in hand, standing up or sitting on a sofa. What do they have to tell? Short comedic tales of life sliding out of control. A woman dumps a builder’s body in the bin after inadvertently smashing his head in when she opens the front door. A man has to spend an entire day at work with a dog turd on the bottom of his shoe… Logique du Pire shows humanity at its most indifferent, its most egotistical – yet also at its funniest.
