Anne-Cécile Vandalem creates an astonishing seafaring tale: a cross between psychological thriller and surrealist comedy.
“Those who are familiar with my work know how I love to combine genres to create new ones”, reveals Anne-Cécile Vandalem. Surrealist comedy, futuristic tale, political thriller, theatrical, musical, and cinematographic creation all rolled into one, this new play from the Belgian director transports us into 2025. The world has changed. Climate imbalance has exposed the natural resources in the polar regions. Greenland, now an economic powerhouse, is on the point of achieving independence and closing its borders.
We find ourselves aboard the Arctique Serenity, an old cruise ship headed for this new El Dorado. However, a technical failure leaves the vessel without power, and it drifts before finally becoming trapped in the ice. What if this was no mere accident? In the same vein as her gripping play Tristesses, which you may have enjoyed last season, Arctic plunges us into a mystery full of unexpected twists, humour, and suspense. Head for the Far North.
