Thomas Ehretsmann illustrates the season
Thomas Ehrettsmann was born in 1974 and spent his childhood years in Thann, Alsace. After his studies at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg he began working as an illustrator for the press and the publishing industry.
His work has most notably appeared in The New Yorker, Rolling Stone and the magazine Elle, for which he illustrated the ‘C’est mon histoire’ feature for seven years. He has also illustrated covers for novels and comic books for European and American editors, and in 2009 he spent several months in Norway studying under the supervision of the painter Odd Nerdrum.
In 2011, the Society of Editors in New York rewarded him with a gold medal for his illustration of Murder Inc, and in 2013 and 2017 the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles rewarded his illustrations for Don Vito and Nixon with a silver medal before his painting ‘Vacuum 2’ was selected for the BP Portrait Award at the National Gallery in London.
Over the last few years his paintings and drawings have been exhibited at the galerie L’Oeil du Prince in Paris and the galerie Brulée in Strasbourg, and he has also been invited to Italy several times to supervise illustration and its techniques workshops as well as workshops on observational drawing.
