An abandoned baby in the banquet room of a cruise liner in 1920 is found and temporarily adopted by one of the ship’s engineers. The infant was named Novocento and he would never set foot on dry land, but his fingers did discover the 88 keys of a piano which he played incessantly. They were his sole horizon while he ceaselessly voyaged around the Atlantic Ocean, and his interior voyage turned him into a legendary virtuoso as he composed an inexhaustible number of variations inspired by the music of his time, which was 1920s jazz as well as Ravel, Debussy and Satie. He became so renowned that his reputation irritated another great pianist, leading him to insist upon a musical duel to establish who the real master is…
