This story was constructed around the testimonies of prostitutes during their occupation in 1975 of the church of Saint-Nizier, Lyon. Their occupation represented the first attempt by sex workers to obtain the freedom to exercise their profession instead of being punished for doing so at a time when prostitution had become legalised. Loveless recounts the lives of six women who consented to loveless sex and it shines a harsh spotlight on the preconceived ideas about their work. It is the story of these modern-day ‘Marie-Madeleines’ who demanded their rights whilst taking refuge in the church. Co-written by Anne Buffet and Yann Dacosta, this production reveals the details of their existence and highlights their joys and deceptions in a highly communicative manner.
